ビッグバンセオリーは、オタク（nerd）な青年レナードとシェルドンの2人の隣の部屋にブロンドで美人なペニーという女の子が引っ越してきたことから始まるシュチュエーションコメディー（シットコム）です。
動画配信サービスでは、海外ドラマも豊富に取り揃えられていますが、そのうちの一つがビッグバンセオリーです。

オタク青年4人とセクシー美女の法則
第1話はレナードとシェルドンの2人がペニーに初めて出会う話です。ちなみにレナードとシェルドン（特にシェルドン）は天才物理学者という設定で、しばしば意味不明なことを口走ります。あまり日常会話で使わないような表現も多いので、そういった部分は意図的に解説にも載せないようにしています。
精子バンクのシーン
目次を見て驚いた方もいらっしゃるかもしれませんが、物語はいきなり精子バンクのシーンから始まります。
Leonard：Um, is this the high-IQ sperm bank?
Receptionist：If you have to ask, maybe you shouldn't be here.
Sheldon：I think this is the place.
Receptionist：Fill these out.
Leonard：Thank you.

fill outは「書類などに記入する」という意味ですが、後ろに代名詞を伴うとfill these outのように語順が変化します。これは句動詞と呼ばれる2語を組み合わせた動詞表現でよく起こります。日本人が英語を話す時にこれが正しく出てくるとこの人話せるな！と感じさせられます（たぶん）

早速シェルドンの長文が出ましたね。ここはちょっとおもしろい表現などがあったので、あえて書いてみました。まずシェルドンが話すときはレベルの高い単語が多いです。fraudは「詐欺」の意味で、commit a fraudで「詐欺を行う」の意味となります。さらにgenetic fraudとあるので、ここでは「遺伝子詐欺」の意味になります。
offspringは「子孫」です。対義語はancesterで「祖先」の意味になります。
Fuddruckersは日本では馴染みがないですよね。アメリカのハンバーガーショップです。
とても美味しそうですね…。
ペニー登場のシーン
さて、ビッグバンセオリーのヒロイン役であるペニーが登場します。
Leonard：New neighbor?
Sheldon：Evidently.
Leonard：Significant improvement over the old neighbor.
Sheldon：Two hundred pound transvestite with a skin condition, yes she is.
Penny：Oh, hi!

Sheldon：That’s the beauty of it.
Leonard：I’m going to invite her over. We’ll have a nice meal and chat.

Leonard：Well it’s not difficult, you just listen to what she says and then you say something appropriate in response.
Sheldon：To what end?
Leonard：Hi. Again.

Leonard：Anyway, um. We brought home Indian food. And, um. I know that moving can be stressful, and I find that when I’m undergoing stress, that good food and company can have a comforting effect. Also, curry is a natural laxative, and I don’t have to tell you that, uh, a clean colon is just one less thing to worry about.
Sheldon: Leonard, I’m not expert here but I believe in the context of a luncheon invitation, you might want to skip the reference to bowel movements.
Penny：Oh, you’re inviting me over to eat?
Leonard：Uh, yes.
Penny：Oh, that’s so nice, I’d love to.
Leonard：Great.
Penny：So, what do you guys do for fun around here?

昼食に誘うシーンで出てきたinvite her over「（食事などで）招待する」は前述のfill outと同じ群動詞です。herは代名詞なので、invite her outという語順になっています。
なぜか性別や便通の話題が多くなっていますが、ここがビッグバンセオリーの難しいところ。コミュ障でオタクのレナードたちは普通に話を展開させることができません。またすぐに難しい単語を使うので、聞き取りは難しいですね。ネイティブでもシェルドンの言っていることを完璧に分かる人はほぼいないと思います。
to what endやwhat do you (guys) do for fun (around here)は決まり文句なので、覚えておきましょう。普段何をしているのと尋ねたペニーに対して、シェルドンが「今日はお金のために自慰をしようとした」と言って、会話が一旦終了します。
ちなみにかつての隣人の名前がLouis-slash-Louiseとなっているのは、性別がどちらかわからないため、男性系と女性系で名前を表したものと思われます。
ペニーの自己紹介のシーン
一緒に昼食を食べることになったペニーが自己紹介をするシーンがあります。
Penny：Okay, let's see, what else? Oh, I'm a vegetarian. No, except for fish and occasional steak. I love steak!
Sheldon：That’s interesting. Leonard can’t process corn.
Leonard： Do you have some sort of a job?
Penny：Oh, yeah, I’m a waitress at the Cheesecake Factory.
Penny：Oh, yeah, I’m a waitress at the Cheesecake Factory.
Leonard：Oh, okay. I love cheesecake.
Sheldon：You’re lactose intolerant.
Leonard：I don’t eat it, I just think it’s a good idea.
Penny：Oh, anyways, I’m also writing a screenplay. It’s about this sensitive girl who comes to L.A. from Lincoln Nebraska to be an actress, and winds up a waitress at the Cheesecake Factory.
Leonard：So it’s based on your life?
Penny：No, I’m from Omaha.
Leonard：Well, if that was a movie I would go see it.
Penny：I know, right? Okay, let’s see, what else? Um, that’s about it. That’s the story of Penny.

またレナードが乳糖不耐症であることもここで明らかになりました。おまけにとうもろこしも消化できないみたいです。第1話はパイロットエピソード（pilot episode：試験的に放送される第1話）なので、まだキャラが定まりきっていないですね。なのでこのときはペニーはちょっと不思議ちゃんみたいな要素もありました。
ハワード＆ラージ登場のシーン
色々あってペニーがシャワーを借りることになりますが、ちょうどその時に、レナードのオタク友達ハワードとラージが登場します。
Howard：Wait till you see this.
Raj：It’s fantastic. Unbelievable.
Leonard：See what?
Howard：It’s a Stephen Hawking lecture from MIT in 1974.
Leonard：This is not a good time.
Howard：It’s before he became a creepy computer voice.

Sheldon：Leonard has a lady over.
Howard：Yeah, right, your grandmother back in town?
Leonard：No. And she’s not a lady, she’s just a new neighbor.
Howard：Hang on, there really is a lady here?
Leonard：Uh-huh.
Howard：And you want us out because you’re anticipating coitus?
Leonard：I’m not anticipating coitus.

ハワードとラージが興奮した様子で、ホーキング博士の昔の講義ビデオを持ってきますが、ペニーを招いているレナードはとにかく早く帰ってほしい様子。女性を招いていることがバレて、coitusを連発するハワードに、レナードはcoitusを連発しないでくれと頼みます。その様子を見たシェルドンが「厳密に言うと嫌がらせすることに"成功"した」とうまいことを言ったところでペニーが帰ってきます。
ペニーの元カレにテレビを返してもらう
シャワーを浴びているペニーにうまいことテレビの回収を頼まれてしまったレナードはシェルドンを連れて、ペニーの元カレの家に向かいます。

語彙で紹介したergoはラテン語から来た言葉です。ergoを用いた言葉は「Cogito ergo sum」が最も有名でしょう。日本語では「我思うゆえに我あり」というデカルトの言葉です。
またstring theoryはこれまたビッグバンセオリーの頻出単語です。ひも理論という考え方で、かんたんに説明すると物質を極限まで細かくした「素粒子」の集まりであると考えた時に、素粒子が点状ではなく、ひもの形で存在しているとする考え方です。ひも理論はシェルドンの中心的な研究テーマです。
さて、マンションに入れない2人は何か案がないかと考えようとしますが、そのとき2人の少女がかんたんにマンションに入っていく様子を目撃します。そして次のセリフです。
Sheldon：What do you think their combined IQ is?
Leonard：Just grab the door.
Leonard：Just grab the door.
何でもIQが高ければ解決できると考えるのも良くないですね笑
マンションにパンツで帰還するシーン
勇敢にテレビを取り戻しに行った2人ですが、返り討ちにあってパンツ一枚でマンションに帰宅します。
Leonard：We’re home.
Penny：Oh, my God, what happened?
Leonard：Well, your ex-boyfriend sends his regards and I think the rest is fairly self-explanatory.
Penny：I’m so sorry, I really thought if you guys went instead of me he wouldn’t be such an ass.
Leonard：No, it was a valid hypothesis.
Sheldon：That was a valid hypothesis? What is happening to you?
Penny：Really, thank you so much for going and trying. You just, uh, you’re so terrific. Why don’t you put some clothes on, I’ll get my purse and dinner is on me, okay?
Leonard：Really? Great.
Penny：Oh, my God, what happened?
Leonard：Well, your ex-boyfriend sends his regards and I think the rest is fairly self-explanatory.
